Elspeth was educated at Headington School, Oxford. She took a BSc(Hons) degree in physics at Imperial College followed by a MSc in medical electronics and physics at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London University and a MPhil in management studies at Oxford University.
Following a successful career in the medical device industry and in technology transfer she co-founded PowderJect Pharmaceuticals plc with Paul Drayson in 1993 and was a director of the company until its successful IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 1997. PowderJect was a highly successful spin-out from the University of Oxford based on technology first identified by Elspeth as having significant commercial potential.
In 2007 she co-founded with Paul, Drayson Racing TechnologiesLLP, a green technology research and development business & international race team. During the period when Paul was a government minister, Elspeth fulfilled the role of CEO and Team Owner until May 2010. During this period Drayson Racing successfully competed in the ALMS, ELMS and ILMC championships achieving a number of green technology “firsts” and setting the foundation for the successful development of the business.
From May 2010 to 2014 Elspeth has been responsible for all aspects of finance and administration of Drayson Racing Technologies.
Elspeth and Paul were married in 1994, have five children and live in London and Gloucestershire UK.
